when petals fall

It's very unsettling emotionally when someone of your age group/generation pass away. It makes you only think of how fragile life is and whether you have been living yours to its optimum fullest.

Last night a friend of mine ,clarence ong, informed me of a disheatening news- a friend of mine had passed on. His name was Ong Jun Lun and we were from the same unit. The latter and I weren't closely knitted but definitely more than superficial friends. We were from the same badminton team and played the inter-signals formation tournament together. After Weipin and myself Ord-ed, he took over Weipin's singles spot in the signals formation badminton team. Everytime when we completed our games, he would ask me to get my CSM to let us off early, but I didn't want to go home early since I had nothing to do at home too. He would then ask me relentlessly to have her give us time off and make me drive him out of camp. He had always been indolent, perpetually sleeping all day long and would skive when given tasks. However, he was a great person, didn't have any ill/violent tendencies to others. Recollections of him and I were playing badminton during the tournaments and bitching about how stupid some of the other NSFs were.
One thing that leaves me wrenching was not calling him back, he smsed me when I was on the plane to Beijing. After having downloaded pfingo, I went to give him a call but once again he was sleeping and I said I will call him back. I refrained from deleting the sms to remind myself to call him back.

Just yesterday (after not changing to my Singapore Sim card for 2 weeks), I decided to return his call. I already knew what he had wanted to ask me: status of his civilian license application. Though I completed NS in June last year, I was somehow responsible/linked to his civilian license application.

- Earlier on in 2006, Jun Lun had reversed a 5 tonner into a Commading Officer's Civilian Vehicle and was awarded 9 demerit points by my Officer in Command. Since the case was not reported to HQ Transport nor was the demerit points awarded by the SAF transport department the 9 points should not have been justified/valid.

Evidently, my understudy felt that such an act was blatant transgression and ALLEGEDLY wasn't very helpful during the license application procedure. Instead of thinking of ways to help Jun Lun get his license, he felt a 180 degrees approach was more appropriate. When I came to hear of such news, I felt that this was total bullshit. Ergo, i took up the onus to try get his license application through with my warrant officer/CSM. Our task was successful, the licensing department gave the green light but that was probably 2 months ago.

However, when I came to find out that my understudy was very adamant lately that Jun Lun would not get his license I guessed that something was amiss.

-To my understudy whom I know you read my blog-

大哥 here shall now fuck my usual euphemistic self. Why would something as trivial as competing whose ORD dates are earlier get to you. Everyone ORDs in 2 years, need you be so vengeful on an issue as insignificant as such? A fellow NSF driver who worked 2 years under a unit such as ours should not deserve a license? He might have had an accident during his tenure but from what I understand from the GOM (unless there was a drastic change to it) he should get his license. Though you didn't have the hierarchal authority to avert the situation, you were the puppet master to it weren't you. If I am still sitting in your position, Jun Lun would definitely gotten his license already.

In these few months, alot of people had asked me why I had passed my appointment to you.

My answer: I didn't expect the then jovial and happy go lucky person be overtaken by insatiable supremacy.

Do you like basking in the authority that you have attained from the appointment? So what if you have the strongest decision making ability among all the other NSFs, that doesnt give you any respect from them. It's the person not the appointment. I am not saying they respect me but they know they can rely on me and will definitely call me if they get into trouble. And I believe you know that I used to get my ass fried by CPT Ong and others because I help/speak up for them too much then. I can't say that about you can I? Of late, I heard you love seeing people get charged and if anyone gets in your way, he will have a bitter end? Your interpretation of respect, respect = fear, doesnt work out.

Perhaps someone else was indeed more appropriate. And if you dont realise, because of what you did then make me feel like a bastard for not returning the call.

Well, at least now i think we have reached a common understanding/fact - he wont be getting his license for sure. You owned him and finally, me. Respectxxx...

F**k the RSM that didn't give him the bloody license, if he would to give him.. He 'might not' die.. I'm really sad that JL had passed away, I just met him like few weeks ago only.. 10+ years of friend just pass away like this, since junior sch, then secondary.. Then the days where we chiong games together.. Play billiard together.. Gone thru NS as a driver.. Sighed. RIP OJL!

Anyway to the blog owner, I dun know you, I just happened to search his name thru goggle.

Hmm, I am rather sadden to see that you have only heard one side of the story and no, I don't like getting people to be charged or whatsoever. In fact, I put my own arse on the bloody line to ensure that the person only would either get a scolding, to submit a statement or at most 5 extra duties.

About JL whom yes I feel sorry for not getting his license. And no, I hold no personal agenda towards him. And if I had been as petty/crazy I would say as you think I am, then I guess alot of other people who would had worse from me. Lets see, people who ORD in Jan... Feb... Mar... Apr... May...

His case was registered with HQTPT(yes, Patrick and Xue En did sent it there) and I double checked with HQTPT after they went looking for their lost documents. Now with the GOM that has changed which states that once you get more than 8 demerit points, you wouldn't be eligible anymore for consideration.(Roger is not getting it too), I still upheld my duty to send it to STC just to get smacked left right center about why bothering to submit when its already a gone case. I did tell JL that he might not get it because of the GOM and had given a copy of the GOM to almost every regular I knew. Apparently that doesn't serve its point because the license application form still ended at STC and which caused a big hoo ha at STC, HQ TPT and our own unit of why a 9 pointer was sent there without the knowledge of CO after being told that it was rejected in the first place.

I am actually rather surprised that you would have came to the conclusion that I was the master behind all this when no one actually knew what I did behind the screens. And even more that after spending 2 years in the same company, you never seem to understand that facts you hear are never facts that happened. Especially when it comes to sensitive issues like this. License, promotion, extras. I don't make the decisions here, and I do speak up to my superiors when I feel things had gone out of line and what fear= respect for me? Sorry man, I only know that I need to maintain the office and ensure its running in its daily needed routines.

Perhaps the frequent contact with RSM has somewhat gave alot of people different ideas. But since he was at the helm, I reckon that his extras giving were getting lesser and lesser. But for stupid mistakes that people make (unauthorized ferry service, losing camp passes. Improper turnout) did I gave all of them hints here and there about not making themselves into shit? Or did I call all of them one by one to my desk to tell them that I want to ensure that things in the company is done the right way? Ans; no.

It seriously is starting to disgust me, the way you doubt your own foresight, and what I have been doing. I gladly take the blame of being the "biggest power eating asshole" Since it doesn't affect me at all when I knew I couldn't help JL get a proper license partly because of the stupid new GOM which tied all our hands despite fighting for it. Maybe you should get a copy and read it yourself. I bet that you gotten the news through someone who needs loads of english tuition even though I highlighted all the impt points.

But there's one thing definitely for sure. I hate being framed, backstabbed and doubted. This definitely opens my eyes to the new horrors of the MTC.

OMG. Glenn only got to hear "one side" of the story.~~ Ur "Understudy" was clearly being framed, backstabbed and doubted.~~ We all made a terrible misunderstanding and misconception about him.~~ But i wonder why is the "one side of the story" being agreed by many others, and they are clearly disgusted by this so called "garang" understudy? Come on, if you never do anything like that, people will not backstab or even frame u in the first place.
5 extras. Haha. Dun make me laugh. Shouldn't u be helping them not get extras in the first place? and 5 extras is f*cking a lot. it wld take some rather serious shit to warrant that 5 extras.
What is GOM? Dun bring some f*cking GOM shit into the picture. A whole lot of f*cking paragraph about GOM, HQTPT, STC etc. In Singlish we wld usually say "Dun come and tok cock with me lah." Haha. If u meant to help JL get the licence in the first place, all these GOM, HQTPT shit will not be even in the picture. We clearly knew what u have done. We dun give a shit about your frequent contact with RSM, we dun even give a f*ck about how u lick his balls. This is clearly none of our f*cking business.
U were saying RSM are giving lesser and lesser extras? I can't agree with u more. U know why? Because the extras are now given by another "garang" personnel, the MTO.
Let me enlighten u on one thing. It is YOU who brought the new horrors into MTC. The horror of getting 5 extras, the horror of not getting the licence. U name it, u get it.
And 1 last thing. U know what is the most horrible thing that actually happened in MTC?
Its your CFC "Corporal First Class" promotion.

Lets hope JL know who to look for to "claim his licence".
May u rest in peace my friend.

What I find unconscionable about this entire episode is the remorseless bickering about trivia like licenses and bloody extras that would make any of the dead turn in his grave. Is this what Jun Lun left behind? Personal animus and a trail of petty little fights?

If it takes a death to give you the courage to expose alleged power-mongering, it says as much about your opportunism as it does of your cowardice. If you, as the accused, can respond with such self-righteous vitriol, it is ironic proof of your crime.

Carry on your pointless little lives if you must, but please do so without infringing the memory of the dead.

My beloved dear friend, Ong Jun Lun loves driving so much that during our duty; he would steal my keys & drive my car around MTL while I was in the shower. After JL orded, he was very worried he could not get his license and would call me every week to ask about his license processing. When I last spoke to him on the phone; I told him that I doubt he can obtain his license even after madm & glenn tried so hard; he was clearly upset and disappointed. It really meant Everything to him. To whom it may concern: only u yourself would know whether u had any role to play in mishandling this case, go fucking reflect about it… I strongly believe the only thing we as NSF can get out of army is friendship. It was never about the rank or authority or achievement. However, it doesn't matter anymore; the fact is JL is gone; he was a well-liked person & he will forever be missed by all of us. >>>3sg JT

I spent quite a few duties with JL as my duty driver when i was in lsu and he really was a nice guy to do duty with. He was always joking about life and we used to talk cock the whole day on duty. His sudden loss is tragic and to insult his passing with silly fucking excuses about GOM,STC,HQTPT is completely stupid. If you wanted to let him have his license then you would have found a way (be it left or right way). In any case whether he gets his license now is redundant but I honestly wonder if Mr. 17K full-time/8K part-time can properly justify his penis-y attitude and RSM ball-sucking behaviour towards not only JL but people in general. I always thought you were an ok understudy to glenn but I am now proven completely wrong. Since when was 5 extra a light fucking punishment? Light punishment=scolding. In fact, I remember some guy got caught with a camera handphone and was only given 5 extra so what nonsense are you spouting? Stop with the backstabbing bullshit because when your judgement finally comes (and it WILL come) you WILL get FUCKED UP.

In conclusion, fuck off CFC penis-face and go back to your imaginary 17k/month job.

Ong JL RIP, you were a great guy and driver, always well-liked and will be missed.

seriously ken, u doesnt deserve the first class CPL when ur character reflect u as a low class dog. the every sight of ur looks totally disgust me. for watever and how hard u explain, no one will respect and like u. U will ORD as a bastard in every 1 eyes. Even the next generation of NSFs will said how a boot licker and a backstabber u are. 10 20 30 years later, when people ask how ur 2 years ns life, u can only lied to them tat how much u are like in camp, yet in ur heart u know how much people hates you.

Anonymous said...

Ken Lee, you were hated in everywhere u go.. Be it driving course, be it in your own unit. Jun lun told me soooo much that he hated you.. Now I know why.. So you were the mastermind behide all these sh!ts.. I can't say much here because I'm not from your unit and I dunno the whole picture. But dun worry, we were once same bunk before in driving course, I know that your ego is always very high.. And you always loved to bootlick the superior/instrutors.. Group41 was 1 of the best groups IMO.. But when u started to takeover Noor as the In-charge, everything changed.. No wonder everybody hated you so badly in the course.. Some even wanted to whack you, ROFL. Incase u haven't figured out, i'm ONG SL.

glamorousky, I think that you had gotten it wrong. He didn't mastermind the whole thing but I felt he didnt do enough/ didnt do what was right.

In addition, understand that the above said was not inscribed to take away any of the "finger-pointing". We are still pissed off.
